The Trapper and Panther Summer Basketball Camp is set to kick off on Monday, giving kids from first grade through high school the opportunity to improve their skills on the court at Cabre Gym.

Darla Hernandez earned her second straight Region IX North All-Region first team honors and also received All-Defensive honors for the first time for her sophomore year.

Postseason honors poured in for two Northwest College women’s basketball team members, with Darla Hernandez being named to the Region IX North All-Region first team and All-Defensive team while Roxanne Rogers was named to the Region IX North All-Region first team.

Jimena Montoro-Cabezas made an impact for Northwest in her first season, but the Trappers’ campaign ended in the quarterfinal game against Trinidad State.

An improved season came to a close for the Northwest College women’s basketball team last week, as the Trappers fell to Trinidad State in the Region IX quarterfinal.

Months of hard work paid off for the Northwest College women’s basketball team, which gained an extra week to prepare for the Region IX tournament this weekend in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, where the Trappers will open play against Trinidad at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Nayeli Acosta helped lead the Trappers to victory in Riverton, finishing with 22 points, nine assists and seven rebounds in the win.

In a week where the Northwest College women’s basketball team needed two wins to lock up a first round bye, the Trappers responded — catching fire from the field and defeating Central Wyoming 85-73 on Friday in Riverton, before beating Western Wyoming 84-62 at home on sophomore night.

Two victories over three days gave the Northwest College women’s basketball team a much needed boost in the race for the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye — the Trappers defeated Eastern Wyoming 76-34 at home Thursday before securing a key victory Saturday at Western Wyoming 78-70.

Kamber Good Luck and the Northwest College women will look to bounce back in the second half of the Region IX schedule in a tight battle for a top postseason seed.

NWC WOMEN LOSE ROAD CONTEST TO NO. 16 CASPER

The Northwest College women’s basketball team had its Region IX North winning streak snapped on the road last Saturday — dropping a difficult contest to No. 16-ranked Casper College 85-46.

Natalyah Nead and the Trapper women rebounded from an opening Region IX loss and have since moved into a tie for second heading into the midway point of the conference season.

Following a loss to Casper the opening weekend of Region IX North play, the Northwest College women’s basketball team has rattled off three straight victories — moving to 3-1 in Region IX play after defeating Laramie County Community College last Wednesday 78-61 and Central Wyoming College on Saturday 71-57.

Heading on the road after an opening loss in Region IX North play, the Northwest College women’s basketball team defeated Eastern Wyoming 71-52 in Torrington on Wednesday, Jan. 25.  

Kamber Good Luck returned to the Trapper lineup on Saturday, finishing with a team-high 13 points against the Thunderbirds.

A strong first quarter was not enough to carry the Northwest College women’s basketball team to an upset victory over No. 21-ranked Casper College, as turnovers and rebounding doomed the Trappers in a 72-55 home loss on Saturday.

Coming out of the winter break the Northwest College women’s team had an opportunity to finish non-conference play on a high note, but came up short on a long road trip to Montana and North Dakota — losing to Dawson Community College 74-48, defeating United Tribes Technical College 67-53 and losing to Bismarck State College 79-66.

After a strong first half of the season, the Northwest College women’s basketball team has the opportunity to finish 10 games above .500 heading into the conference schedule, rounding out non-conference action this weekend on the road with three games in Montana and North Dakota.
