VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS INAUGURAL TRAPPER INVITATIONAL

No amount of snow or negative temperatures could stop Cabre Gym from hosting the 1st Annual Trapper Invitational this weekend.  Northwest College welcomed in teams from Western Wyoming, Dawson, Williston State and Colorado Northwestern to compete in the three day event.  The Trappers opened play on Thursday against Colorado Northwestern, sweeping the Spartans in straight sets (25-15, 25-19, 27-25).  On Friday, NWC would play a double header, first beating Williston State 3-1 (25-21, 25-12, 22-25, 25-11) and then sweeping the Bucs of Dawson by the scores of 25-15, 25-22, 25-15.  On Saturday the Trappers would have a rematch with Dawson, once again sweeping the Bucs by scores of 25-11, 25-10, 25-19.

Statistically the Trappers were led in Digs by Paige Weimer with 81.  Weimer currently is in the top 2 Nationally in total digs.  Sayler Larson led the defensive attack at the net with 17 blocks while Jacie Walker added 12 of her own.  On the offensive side, Baylee Peterson (35), Karli Steiner (33) and Shante Falslev (29) led the team in kills while Paige Weimer, Jacie Walker and Karli Steiner combined for 19 aces.

The Trapper Invitational marked the conclusion of the pre-season portion of the schedule.  NWC currently has a 5 match winning streak and a 10-5 overall record which doubles the win total from the previous season under first year head coach Scott Keister.  Attention will now be turned to conference play which starts next weekend with the Trappers playing host to #16 Eastern Wyoming on Friday at 7pm and Laramie County on Saturday at 1pm in Cabre Gym.  The Trappers look to improve upon their last place conference finish a year ago.
